Making friends...high school/college?
Wow! you've said a mouthful! After going through the high school and college experience myself, I can give you an emphatic, "yes!" college, thankfully, will be much different than high school! For one, people in college don't tend to judge you a lot, and the atmosphere is more open. You are likely to meet more unfamiliar faces in college, because people usually go out of state or even out of the country to go to school. You will have opportunities to volunteer with the surrounding community, join clubs, and study abroad, write for the school paper, invent your own club, start a business, or do innovative research. There will also be a constantly changing environment. Some people will transfer, graduate, or drop out, and new people will take their place. Also, you will have more of an opportunity to make friends in college, because you will have opportunities that you never had in high school, such as living on campus and having roommates. Plus, your self esteem will sky rocket. You will be amazed at how much you are learning, and that will give you lots of confidence. Unlike high school, the learning done in college is usually meaningful and applicable to everyday life. You will have an opportunity to apply what you are learning and meet people of like passion, and you will be able to pursue your dreams. Overall, there's a completely different social dynamic in college than in high school. People in college tend to be more mature and focused, and the environment is always open and changing. After high school, the popularity contest is over, college is a chance to prove yourself in a more meaningful way.
